HPPE Facilities

HPPE classes are conducted primarily in and around Plachy Hall. This facility was constructed in 1965 in time to be used by the United States Olympic Team as they prepared for the 1968 Olympic Games held in Mexico City. Adams State College was chosen due to the similarity in altitude to that of Mexico City.
A $10.6 million renovation of Plachy Hall will begin in the summer of 2007. The renovation will include a new weight room and training area, new visiting team locker rooms, renovation of existing locker rooms, and roof replacement. A 12,000 square foot addition, along with extensive renovation of the existing 62,000 square feet, will make Plachy Hall one of the finest athletic facilities in the region.
Plachy Hall currently contains three classrooms, with capacity to accommodate 145 students. All classrooms have internet accessibility. The facility includes a large multipurpose field-house with an indoor track and a variety of activity stations. Plachy Hall also includes a main gymnasium, auxiliary gymnasium, weight-room, swimming pool, athletic training room, human performance laboratory, and faculty and administrative offices with internet connectivity.
Outdoor areas include two softball fields, two large areas for field sports, four outdoor racquetball courts, six tennis courts, an all-weather track, and a football field. All indoor and outdoor areas can be used as teaching stations.
In January of 2000, the department opened a human performance laboratory by investing over $25,000.00 in technology. This facility includes the Parvo Medics 2400 metabolic cart, YSI Sports Lactate Analyzer, Quinton treadmill, FitnessAge fitness assessment computer, and other lab-related equipment.
The department also currently has two "smart carts" for utilization in power point presentations. These multimedia units include a computer and an image projector.
