Mrs. Peggy Johnson
Peggy Johnson has been an adjunct instructor for the HPPE department since January, 2000. She works as a full time program supervisor for Blue Peaks Developmental Services, a local agency which provides services and supports for individuals with intellectual disabilities, and has worked there since moving to Alamosa in 1990. She is also very active as a volunteer board member and coach for the SLV Special Olympics program.
Peggy completed her Bachelor of Science in Education in Health, Physical Education & Recreation from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. She then earned her Master of Science in Parks, Recreation & Tourism from the University of Missouri-Columbia while working full time. Her major sports interests are swimming, gymnastics, volleyball and tennis.
She has been a substitute teacher in a variety of settings, with a particular interest in special education and adapted physical education. She has also worked as a sports director for the U. S. Army supervising a wide variety of facilities and programs both overseas and here in the U. S. Prior to moving to Colorado, she worked as a program supervisor for the city of Columbia, Missouri’s parks & recreation department supervising programs in aquatics, outdoor recreation, adapted recreation and cable television promotions. While in Columbia, she also volunteered as a regional director for Missouri Special Olympics.
In her spare time, Peggy enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and her dog, and particularly enjoys white water rafting & kayaking, cross country skiing, hiking and camping. She also enjoys fishing, gardening, reading, and attending music festivals.
