Dr. Anthony Laker
Dr. Anthony Laker is the Department Chair and a Professor of Human Performance and Physical Education. He is originally from England where his undergraduate studies were at the University of Exeter. Dr. Laker has MEd and MS degrees from the University of Bristol, UK and the University of Wyoming. His doctorate in sport pedagogy is from the University of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Laker has taught physical education and coached in elementary and secondary schools. He has also worked in higher education in both the UK and the USA.
In his youth, Dr. Laker was a top-level track athlete and soccer player. He continues to follow Arsenal Football Club in the English Premiership.
Dr. Laker teaches courses in curriculum and the social aspects of sport. He is the author of four books and numerous articles and presentations at conferences in the USA and internationally. Most recently, he was the Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Exeter. His current research interests include understanding and interpreting the physical education curriculum and sports experience from a global, cultural perspective.
In his spare time Tony enjoys walking the family dog, sailing, surfing, skiing, traveling and long distance trekking.
