In the mathematics and computer science program we offer a full range of courses for students in all economic, ethnic, and age groups. We pride ourselves in providing a small college setting that emphasizes faculty accessibility, individualized attention, and ample access to computing hardware and software, including ADA compliant sites.

We offer a selection of courses for non-majors designed to help them become familiar with the use of mathematics as the language of nature, and some of the many applications of mathematics or computers to other fields. The department has a responsibility to give every student an opportunity to achieve quantitative literacy as well as proficiency with computer technology.

Mathematics majors at ASC learn to apply logical reasoning and mathematical precision to solve problems. The broad base of mathematical topics treated provides majors with a solid foundation from which to pursue graduate studies in the mathematical sciences.

Students who choose to major in mathematics are qualified for employment in a wide variety of occupations. The American Mathematical Society's Mathematical Sciences Career Information page contains extensive information about careers for mathematics majors.

We also serve those students who desire to teach mathematics at the secondary school level. By completing a typical mathematics major within the department, then obtaining the necessary licensing requirements via the Department of Teacher Education, these students emerge from ASC prepared to step right into the classroom.
