Holly VanValkenburg is the Instructor of Double Reeds at Adams State College. She teaches applied double reed lessons and reed making class. She has previously been on the faculties of Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Mesa Community College in Arizona.

Ms. VanValkenburg is currently finishing her Master of Music degree in Oboe Performance at Arizona State University. She is a student of Martin Schuring. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where she studied with Lorrie Brown. Her other major oboe and English horn teacher was Priscilla Brown, formerly with the Rochester Philharmonic.

As an oboist, Ms. VanValkenburg is active as a guest artist and clinician. She has regularly given double reed clinics at local public schools. She has performed in oboe and English horn master classes, including one taught by Joseph Robinson, former principal oboist with the New York Philharmonic. She has taught private lessons extensively for the past eleven years.

Ms. VanValkenburg taught public school band for six years. She taught for three years for Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia and for three years for Mesa Public Schools in Arizona. She was a co-administrator of the Fairfax County Band Director's Association Solo Competition. She also assisted the presentation of "New Music for Wind Band" at the Virginia Music Educator's Association Conference.
