James Doyle

James W. Doyle is currently a visiting assistant professor of music at Adams State College where he teaches courses in percussion, music literature, improvisation, and directs the jazz ensembles, steel drum bands, and percussion ensemble. James earned degrees from the University of Central Missouri and Louisiana State University, and went on to serve as principal percussionist with the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West for six years.

Prior to his appointment with the band, James was a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Reno Philharmonic, Pacific Chamber Orchestra, Classical Philharmonic of San Francisco, Sacramento Chamber Orchestra, Napa Valley Symphony, California Wind Orchestra, Louisiana Sinfonietta, Natchez Opera, and the Shreveport Symphony. He was also a founding member of West Coast Impact, a San Francisco-based percussion ensemble dedicated to the performance of 21st century music and the traditional repertoire of Uganda.

He currently performs regularly with the San Juan Symphony, Music in the Mountains Festival, Medano Creek Quartet, Air National Guard Band of the Gulf Coast Big Band, Doyle/Kane Duo for flute and percussion, and several regional pop, folk, and world music artists.

He has performed as soloist with the Air Force Band of the Golden West, Louisiana State University Wind Ensemble, American River Chamber Orchestra, and the Napa College Orchestra. As a classical, jazz, and rock musician, he has toured throughout North America, Europe, Southwest Asia, and East Africa and his performances have appeared on PBS, CNN, NBC, ABC, and CBS as well as numerous NPR broadcasts.

He has taught at Grandview High School, (MO), Knob Noster High School (MO), the Louisiana State University Music Academy, Yamaha Sounds of Summer Percussion Camps, the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Trinidad State Junior College, and several high school percussion ensembles and drum lines in Missouri, Louisiana, California, and Colorado. James currently resides in Alamosa, CO with his wife, Dr. Tracy Doyle, his two cats, Leo and Mila, and his dog Gabriel.
