The ASC Big Band

The ASC Big Band performs several full-scale concerts per year, as well as additional performances throughout the region. The ensemble performs standard big band repertoire as well as the latest compositions and arrangements. The band rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:50pm and is open to all students based on auditions.

The ASC Big Band regularly tours and performs at Jazz Festivals throughout the country. Recently graduated members of the ASC Big Band are teaching throughout Colorado, have gone on to graduate school at the nation’s finest schools, and perform with professional big bands throughout the country.

ASC Jazz Combos

Students are given the opportunity to perform in small combo settings where they work independently and with faculty guidance. The jazz combos perform on large concerts as well as throughout the semester on campus and in the community. Learning standards with a premium on improvisation is the focus of the combo program.

Salsa Band

Members of the ASC jazz program and percussion studio often combine to perform standard salsa charts for performance with the Alamosa Salseros; a local dance ensemble. The salsa band performs as needed throughout the school year.

Caribbean Ensemble

Members of the ASC jazz program combine with the steel drum band for performances of traditional island favorites from Trinidad and Tobago.

Jazz and Caribbean Music Association

A student-run organization providing both social and professional opportunities for students interested in jazz and Caribbean music. The organization takes frequent trips to hear performances in Santa Fe, Denver, and Colorado Springs. Members are also active as volunteers in campus events and public school classrooms.
