<p>
The Valley Community Chorus will be performing a concert of remembrance at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Sacred Heart Church, located in Alamosa, Colo. They will perform Fauré’s Requiem as well as additional works remembering victims of natural disasters and violence from around the world.</p> 
  <p>Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for students and is free to AS&amp;F and Friends of Music.  For more information, please contact 719-587-7621.

<p>The San Luis Valley Symphony will present its Spring Classics Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in Richardson Hall Auditorium on the Adams State University campus.</p> 
  <p>Under the direction of Dr. William Lipke, the program will feature popular selections including Ludwig van Beethoven's dramatic Egmont Overture, Maurice Ravel's colorful &quot;Fairy Garden&quot; and &quot;Conversations of Beauty and the Beast,&quot; featuring Chelsea Oden on clarinet and Rose Stroback on contrabassoon.</p> 
  <p>Concerto competition winners Kate Newmyer and Mikaela Morgan will be featured in Benedetto Marcello's beautiful Oboe Concerto and Beethoven's profound Romance No. 2.  The program will conclude with lighter audience favorites by Johannes Brahms, three of the most popular Hungarian Dances.</p> 
  <p>The SLV Symphony is composed of former and current professional orchestra members, Adams State faculty members and students, and community members.</p> 
  <p>Tickets will be available in the Music Department Office and at the door. <p>The Adams State University Composers Concert will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in Leon Memorial Recital Hall. The concert will feature new compositions by students Jon Colson, Josh Wohlrabe, Ben Paden, and Josh Stevens.</p> 
  <p>The instrumentation for the concert is varied, featuring works for piano, saxophone, marimba, violin, and chamber ensemble. <p>Adams State University's vocal jazz ensemble, 68 West, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in Leon Memorial Auditorium. The concert will include arrangements of the Beatles, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, Randy Newman, Toto and George Gershwin.</p> 
  <p>The Adams State Chamber and Concert Choirs will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Sacred Heart Church, located in Alamosa, Colo. They will sing madrigals by Schütz and Hassler, works by Bruckner, folksongs, songs about 'modern' technology, and theater works by Bernstein.</p>

<p>
Dr. William Lipke's, Adams State University professor of music, faculty piano recital begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in Leon Memorial Hall on the Adams State campus. The program will include music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Josef Haydn, Frederic Chopin, and others.</p> 
  <p>Lipke has performed with musicians of international stature such as the Ying Quartet (four different seasons) and international opera baritone Håkan Hagegård. He has performed at the World Piano Conference in Europe and performed on a recital series and given a radio interview in St. Petersburg, Russia. His appearances with orchestra include the Liszt Concerto in A Major and have been broadcast on public radio. He has given numerous presentations at state, national and international conventions. Lipke holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. His early teacher was a graduate of the Royal College of Music in London and he first appeared as a concerto soloist with a youth orchestra at the age of twelve. He studied privately with Ozan Marsh (a pupil of Liszt protégés Emil von Sauer and Egon Petri, Horowitz and Rachmaninoff) and chamber music with the LaSalle Quartet and Dorothy Delay. One of his students performed as a soloist with the Honolulu Symphony. He has also taught at the Northern Arizona University Summer Music Camp.</p>

<p>On March 6, the Adams State University Music Department and Opera Workshop will present Love, Laughter and High Notes: Scenes from Operas and Operettas at 7 p.m. in Leon Memorial Hall. This event is free to AS&amp;F and Friends of Music.  Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $1.</p>

  <p>The Music Department at Adams State University is proud to announce the 14th annual &quot;Top of the Nation&quot; Honor Band and Choir Festival featuring select high school students from around the state and surrounding regions. There will be a series of concerts as part of this weekend festival.</p> 
  <ul> 
    <li>On Thursday, February 14 at 7:15 p.m. in Richardson Hall Auditorium, there will be a short jazz concert by 68 West, the ASU Jazz Ensemble.</li> 
    <li>On Friday, February 15 at 8 p.m. in Sacred Heart Church the ASU Concert Choir and Chamber Choir will be performing works by Mendelssohn, Fauré, Copland, Orbán, and Tichelli. They will be joined by the Honor Choirs for Rollo Dilworth's &quot;Take Me to the Water.&quot;</li> 
    <li>The weekend will culminate with the Honor Band and Choir performances on Saturday, February 16.</li> 
    <li>The Honor Bands will perform in Richardson Hall Auditorium at 12 p.m.  The Wind Symphony will be conducted by Dr. Matthew Luttrell from Adams State University and the Symphonic Winds will be conducted by Dr. Gary Hall, a former ASU graduate and highly respected Colorado High School band director. He is currently a music instructor at Laramie County Community College.</li> 
    <li>The Honor Choir will perform in Sacred Heart Church at 2 pm. The Mixed Honor Choir will be directed by Dr. Beth Robison and the Women's Honor Choir will be directed by Dr. Christine Keitges, both from Adams State University.</li>

<p>The Valley Community Chorus is open to all adults in the San Luis Valley including high school students, in ninth through twelfth grades. No auditions are required. The first rehearsal is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Adams State Music Building room 117. Pre-registration is strongly suggested.</p> 
  <p>This spring, Dr. Beth Robison, director, is looking to combine parts of the Faure Requiem with contemporary pieces that reflect war, remembrance and peace. While there will be serious pieces included in this, there will also be lighter ones as well, including looking into a couple of upbeat songs that were popular during times of war.</p>
