William Porter

William Porter is chairman emeritus and founder of E*TRADE and founder of the International Securities Exchange (ISE). His education includes a BA in mathematics from Adams State College, an MS in physics from Kansas State University, and an MS in Management as a Sloan Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He founded Commercial Electronics, Inc., was Director of Research and Planning for Textron, was research manager and electrical engineer of General Electric's Advanced Electronics Center at Cornell University, and was a physicist with the National Bureau of Standards.

In May 2007, William and Joan Porter made a generous donation to Adams State College to "support students who are majoring in either mathematics or science...on the basis of their need, and their ongoing academic achievement." The generosity of William and Joan Porter will benefit science and mathematics students at Adams State College for generations.
