SCJE - Mission and Goals

Mission

The mission of the SCJE is to provide a venue for a dialogue on the issues of rural education in Southern Colorado, open lines of communication among faculty, both college and K-12, and to strengthen the academic community.

The rationale for beginning the SCJE is as follows: Faculty often labor in isolation, teach classes behind closed doors, and rarely share insights or on-going research with their colleagues, on their own campuses or other area educators. This venue will create opportunities to bridge this gap.

Goals

  1. The creation of the Southern Colorado Journal of Education will act as a clearinghouse for valley educators (both college and public school), as well as others wishing to engage in the conversation concerning rural education, and issues involving diversity.
  2. The creation of the Southern Colorado Journal of Education will strengthen ties between the college and local schools.
  3. The creation of the Southern Colorado Journal of Education will contribute to the academic community, both in Southern Colorado and other rural areas involved in similar endeavors.
  4. The creation of the Southern Colorado Journal of Education will bring visibility to the important academic collaboration that often goes unnoticed.
  5. The creation of the Southern Colorado Journal of Education will help in the dissemination of information, concerning issues that affect rural educators across the country.
