Accomplishments

Brian Rauscher, director of Student Support Services, recently attended the Council of Opportunity and Education 2009 International Leadership Program, "World Citizenship: Building Leadership Skills in a Multicultural Society," at the University of Liverpool, England. Rauscher was one of only two leader applicants accepted to the program, with COE covering his travel expenses, program activities, room, admission fees, local transportation, and most meals. Dr. Paul Newman, director of theatre, is directing "Smell of the Kill," which runs July 31 to Aug. 16 at the Center Stage in Evergreen. An "uber-feminist ultra comedy," the play concerns three women who must decide their husbands' fate when the boys accidentally lock themselves in a basement meat locker. One of the three actors is ASC theatre alumna Michele (LaGrange) Wright. For performance details and ticket information, click here.

Pat Bryson, Institutional Research data analyst, was awarded the Julia M. Duckwall Memorial Scholarship, which covers her registration to attend the Association of Institutional Research's Foundations I Institute: The Practice of Institutional Research. It will be held in Nashville, TN, July 28 -August 1, 2009.

The Colorado Rural Health Regional Conference will be held at ASC July 15-16 through the efforts of the Health Care Administration Director Richard Vallone and Armando Valdez.

Dr. Jan Byers-Kirsch is a new assistant professor in Teacher Education. She hails from Boise, ID where last year she finished her Ed. D. at Boise State University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy. She will coordinate the elementary education program and work with Extended Studies to streamline the off-campus program. Her husband, Russ Kirsch, is a special education teacher recently hired by SLV BOCES as a consulting transitional specialist. The couple has five adult children who live in Idaho, Utah and Oregon.

Masood Ahmad, director of Student Engagement and Success, submitted papers by two students in his Survey of Pakistan course to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Dealing with "Pakistan: In the Year 2014," the papers were written by Lori Kester and Giacomo Butler.
