What on EARTH? (03-24-2009)
EARTH Week includes talent show and 5K
Environmental Action for Resources, Transportation and Health (EARTH) group plans a variety of events to celebrate EARTH Week April 13 - 18. Activities include a variety/talent show, with prizes; a 5K run; a Fat Tire Bike Tour of Alamosa Ranch; a concert by Rescue Party; a river clean-up; and a reduce, reuse, recycle garage sale. - ASC Community Partnerships (in the former Art Bldg, corner of Main & Edgemont Streets) is accepting plastic bottle caps for recycling, in conjunction with the Aveda Corporation's program - the only one of its kind in the country. To raise awareness, a sculpture will be created from recycled plastic caps. Caps may be recycled at Community Partnerships.
- Trayless Tuesdays and Thursdays are underway in the cafeteria, thanks to Sodexo. If all goes well, beginning April 13, the first day of EARTH Week, the cafeteria will go completely trayless. Significantly less food waste was observed on one of the first Trayless Tuesday.
- Three Techno Trash boxes are available around campus for small electronic trash (Diskettes, CDs, & DVDs; Video, Audio & Computer Tapes; Printer Cartridges (all types); Cell Phones, Pagers & PDAs; Laptop Computers; Handheld Devices & Accessories; Rechargeable Batteries; Cables, Cords, Chips & Boards. They are located in Porter Hall, on the second floor near the Babbage Computer lab; in Richardson Hall, on the second floor near the President's office, and in the Community Partnerships office at the corner of Main and Edgemont.
- The Green Bike Program has a waiting list for bikes -- all 10 bikes are currently checked out. Thus, AS&F is considering funding another 10 bikes. The EARTH group thanks AS&F for its support and the Adventure Program for providing the checkout and maintenance of the bikes.
