Computer Systems on Campus for Students

There are four computer systems available to the students.

The Novell Server

  • The Novell server provides a convenient and secure place for you to store your files. Within the computer labs you access this area as the N: Drive or from the desktop, on an icon called "My Documents on Brossii". These files are stored on a file server called Brossii. 100 Megabytes of space is allocated per student. Storage of files is limited only to files that support academics. This server also provides print services to the student computer labs.
  •
  • Please do not store MP3s, WAV, RA (Real Audio), MOV (Movie Files) or any files NOT related to academics.
  •
  • These files will be deleted without notice.

The Campus Portal System

  • The Campus Portal system is used to provide Adams State College students, faculty and administrative staff with Intranet and Internet services. This is where you can check your class schedule, register for courses, fill out on-line class evaluations and contact your instructors via email.

Current portal features are:

  • Links to useful stuff
  • Campus announcements
  • Access to School Services, (class registration, transcripts, personal info, etc...)
  • Access to web email
  • Email forwarding
  • View of registered courses
  • Contact info for professors
  • Change your ASC network password, (one stop, portal, email, student labs, Blackboard, wireless, resnet)
  • In the future much of the campus portal functionality will be moved to the one stop series of web pages.

Dial-In Acccess

  • For student that live off-campus, ASC provides up to 50 hours per month of dial up access. Click here for more information, including directions on how to configure your computer.

Web Space

  • Students are allowed up to 50MB of storage for email and web space combined. Click here for more information on building and here for more information on uploading your web page.

Email

  • Students can access their ASC Email through SquirrelMail. SquirrelMail is a web based email system that is easy to use yet allows for a significant amount of personalization. ASC filters spam for student accounts through the use of the SpamHaus DNS Blacklist as well as the SpamAssassin content-based mail filter. SquirrelMail can be accessed through the ASC Portal system or directly at SquirrelMail.
  •
  • We have a high-speed 10baseT ethernet network from selected dorms (Coronado, Girault and Conour) to the Internet. With an ethernet equipped PC (Mac or PC compatible) connected to ASC ResNet, you can directly access the Internet to browse any web site for research or pleasure, and access e-mail to keep in touch with family and friends any time, night or day. This means no more modems, busy phone lines or time limits to worry about.

ASC ResNet

  • ASC ResNet is not meant to replace the conventional computer labs on the campus. Computer labs are available to any student, whenever the labs are open. However, ASC ResNet offers students a chance to literally use the research power of the Internet 24 hours a day from their dorm rooms.
