Assistant Professor of Physics

Position Description:
Adams State College invites applications for a tenure-track position in mathematics or physics at the Assistant Professor level. We seek an energetic, enthusiastic, and broadly trained mathematician or physicist who loves teaching and shares our dedication to excellence. Major responsibilities include teaching mathematics and physics courses across our entire curriculum, department and college service activities, and advising undergraduate students. Final course assignments will depend upon department needs as well as the preferences of the successful candidate. We are primarily an institution focused on teaching excellence, and the teaching load is comprised of 12 credit-hours each semester. While Adams State College does not currently offer a bachelor's degree in physics, we do offer a B.S. in Mathematics with a physics emphasis as well as a B.S. in Chemical Physics.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications at the time of appointment must include one of the following:
- Ph.D. in mathematics with a strong background in physics
- Ph.D. in physics
- Ph.D. in a closely related field with a strong background in mathematics and physics.
Preference will be given to those who:
- demonstrate experience and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and student-centered learning;
- have excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- demonstrate experience or interest in undergraduate research;
- demonstrate interest and experience in developing K-12 outreach programs;
- show potential for continued scholarly growth.
Salary:
Salary range is $42,000 to $47,000 depending upon experience. Adams State College offers a competitive benefits package.

Located in Alamosa, Adams State College is a state supported, primarily undergraduate institution in rural south-central Colorado approximately 3.5 hours from both Denver, CO and Albuquerque, NM. The college is designated as a Hispanic-serving institution and as a regional education provider.
