Coordinator

The First Year Experience Coordinator administers a comprehensive First Year Experience program, including learning communities, peer mentoring, summer reading, transitions courses, and diversity and success programming.
Position Description:
The First Year Experience Coordinator reports to the Director of First Year Experience and Engagement and is responsible for the following:
- Developing a First Year Experience strategic plan in keeping with the First Year Experience and Engagement strategic plan,
- Administering the peer mentoring program for learning communities, including pursuing College Reading and Learning Association certification,
- Hiring, training and supervising peer mentors for First Year Experience programs,
- Developing and assessing effectiveness of First-year Interest Groups (FIGs),
- Consulting with department chairs, program directors and instructors to designate appropriate courses for First-year Interest Groups,
- Admitting students to appropriate First-year Interest Groups,
- Publicizing First Year Experience opportunities to new and continuing Adams State students and throughout campus,
- Coordinating academic support activities with the Resident Director in the designated residence hall and with Student Life Director, including off-campus field trips for First-year Interest Groups participants,
- Co-chairing New Student Orientation, with emphasis on developing academic focus during program,
- Overseeing First Year Experience website and other publications,
- Developing, administering and assessing the Summer Reading Program,
- Assisting Director of First Year Experience and Engagement with Second Year Experience initiative,
- Administering Connections/LINCS (transitions and career development) courses, including recruiting and training exempt staff to teach sections,
- Coordinating ParentConnect electronic newsletter and parent communication system,
- Monitoring success of first year students,
- Developing intervention plan for first year students not succeeding,
- Notifying department chairs and faculty advisors of first year students with low midterm grades, low semester GPAs, on probation or on suspension,
- Delivering academic advising to select first year students,
- Hiring, supervising and training two graduate interns to assist with First Year Experience initiatives, and
- Managing program budget.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required in education, social sciences, humanities or related area--Master's preferred
- Experience supervising student workers
- Working knowledge of student programming and student development--experience as a mentor or administering a mentoring program preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated teaching experience or experience leading workshops
- Familiarity with collegiate academic procedures--academic advising or adult counseling experience preferred
- Experience working as part of an academic team
- Strong organization and communication skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Ability to perform job description
- Clean driving record and possession of, or ability to obtain, a current Colorado State Driver's License
Salary and Benefits:
$28,000-$33,000. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes a liberal benefit package and retirement plan.
