Chair, Department of Music
Position #FA8013
The successful candidate will provide leadership for a department seeking to develop in size and quality in a competitive higher education environment.
The appointment will consist of a nine-month faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, with an additional stipend for administrative work. The starting date is negotiable. The fall semester begins August 24, 2009. The department chair normally teaches a one-half reduced load. Preference given to applied area needs. The department chair serves on Academic Council and reports directly to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs.
The Music Department consists of seven full-time and six part-time faculty, serving approximately 65 music majors and more than 700 students annually through courses, lessons, and ensembles. The Department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree, with emphases in Music Education, Performance, and Liberal Arts. In 1997, the Music Department was designated a "Program of Excellence" by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. Qualifications for the Chair position:
- Earned doctorate in Music
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience
- Successful administrative experience in a four-year college or university music program, including experience in budget planning, curriculum development, personnel matters, accreditation, and program reviews
- Interest and experience in working with public schools and as a liaison with teacher education licensure programs
- Successful involvement in student recruiting and retention
- Open and collegial leadership style
- Eligibility for senior rank and faculty tenure
- Ability to perform duties as described above
Adams State College is a state-supported, coeducational, comprehensive college, serving approximately 2200 students on campus, and more than 12,000 in extended studies. Located in south central Colorado's San Luis Valley, an intermountain valley at 7500 feet elevation, Alamosa is 225 miles southwest of Denver, and 150 miles north of Santa Fe, NM.
