Assistant Professor of Music/Applied Instrumental

Position #FA8013

Starting Date:August 14, 2008.

Position Description:

Teach applied music in an area of specialty. Trumpet, percussion, clarinet or saxophone preferred. Provide leadership for development of the instrumental area through recruiting, performances, clinics, and workshops. Teach in other areas of expertise as needed including jazz band, improvisation and an introductory music literature course or another course. The teaching load is equivalent to 12 credit hours per semester.

Qualifications:

Masters degree in music required. The candidate must demonstrate evidence of successful studio teaching, ensemble leadership and the ability to perform above position description, and a strong commitment to recruiting, retention, and active work among area and state music educators.

Appointment:

A one-year appointment beginning August 14, 2008. Rank: Visiting assistant professor. Salary commensurate with degrees and experience; full benefits package.

The Music Department

consists of seven full-time and six part-time faculty, serving approximately 80 music majors and more than 450 students annually through courses, lessons, and ensembles. The Department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree, with emphases in Performance and Liberal Arts and the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education degree, leading to K-12 certification. The ASC Department of Music, designated a "Program of Excellence" by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, is a member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
