CHAMPS
ASC Community Partnerships collaborates with Challenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success (CHAMPS) to match over 100 student athletes each semester with community agencies in need of volunteer services. As a CHAMPS student, you will be required to complete two community-service hours during this semester and present your experience in a brief PowerPoint presentation to the class.
Organizations Currently Needing Assistance:
- ASC Community Partnerships (Manning booths and tables for environmentally friendly shopping bags at Safeway and City Market, continuously arranged with teams of 3-4 students)
- ASC Earth Group (recycle pick up, river clean-up, ASC Earth Week help)
- Con-Cepts (Needs groups to help clean up litter from areas around highways, or alternatively, to help with office organization. Only available a few times a year.)
- Habitat for Humanity (Collect on-campus recycling and deliver to Habitat for Humanity office)
- La Puente (Choice of serving food for the homeless, or executing projects at the Rainbow's End Thrift Store)
- Food Bank (Bagging, stocking, unloading, etc.)
- Community Gardens/Food Bank (Perform office organization, organize information for schools)
- Boys and Girls Club (A variety of activities, including: moving materials, art projects, tutoring, recording fitness levels in gym)
- Colorado Therapeutic Horseback Riding (performing outdoor projects)
- La Llave (5-6:30 p.m., probably tuesdays or thursdays, tutor children after school, alternatively, help with the Adult Literacy Program. This would involve speaking with adults about career planning, what you love about school, etc.)
- Valley Humane League (Walk dogs, socialize kittens and puppies)
- SLV Museum (Students needed to accompany 1st-6th graders on "Meet Mother Nature" field trips, Sept. 19th, 2009, 8 a.m.-12.p.m., Sept 26th, 2009, 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.)

The CHAMPS course is designed to assist in understanding self-management concepts, leadership as well as human diversity. You, as a student-athlete will explore the foundations for good decision making skill, responsibility for self- actions and the importance of being a successful part of the campus community.
