CHAMPS
ASC Community Partnerships collaborates with Challenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success (CHAMPS) to match over 100 student athletes each semester with community agencies in need of volunteer services. As a CHAMPS student, you will be required to complete two community-service hours during this semester and present your experience in a brief PowerPoint presentation to the class.
Organizations Currently Needing Assistance:
- La Puente (preparing/serving meals for homeless)
- ASC Community Partnerships (Manning booths and tables for environmentally friendly shopping bags)
- Habitat for Humanity (collecting from on-campus recycling bins, and taking to Blue Peaks)
- AURA & Downtown merchants (Sweeping sidewalks from Edison to Denver)
- Con Cepts (Adopt-A-Highway)
- Adventure Center (Assisting with activities)
- Wee Care (Read to children, help with activities)
- South Central Colorado Seniors (Yard work)
- Boys and Girls club (different activities with kids)
- Town of La Jara (Help elderly citizens clean property to abide by town code)
- Challenge Colorado Therapeutic Horseback Riding (Help with leading horses for children with mental illnesses and disabilities, some office work)
- Community Gardens (Help with clean-up, repairs, and re-planting)
- ASC Earth Group (recycle pick up, river clean-up)

The CHAMPS course is designed to assist in understanding self-management concepts, leadership as well as human diversity. You, as a student-athlete will explore the foundations for good decision making skill, responsibility for self- actions and the importance of being a successful part of the campus community.
