Admission Procedure for Transfer Students

Adams State College
Extended Studies - Distance Degrees
208 Edgemont Blvd.
Alamosa, CO 81102

Transfer Credit
Credit is accepted by ASC from accredited institutions recommended by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. A maximum of 60 semester hours from junior colleges and/or a maximum of 90 semester hours from senior colleges will be applied toward degree requirements. A maximum of 90 semester hours will be applied toward degree completion at ASC.

Adams State will accept work in which grades of A,B,C,P (pass), CR (Credit) and S were earned for transfer credit. Courses in which a grade of D or lower was earned are not accepted for transfer unless the course is an integral part of a Colorado Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree.

International Student Admission
Adams State College welcomes international students. To be considered for admission to ASC, international students need to submit the following:

1. Completed International Admission Application
2. Submit the US$25 fee (non-refundable)
3. Proof of English proficiency
4. Academic transcripts translated into English

A score of 550 or better on the TOEFL exam or successful completion of level 109 in an ESL program will satisfy the English proficiency requirement. College or university level work completed outside the United States will be accepted directly in transfer only if the college or university is accredited by one of the U.S. regional accrediting associations.

Credits from Non-Accredited Institutions
Credits from a non-accredited institution will not be accepted for transfer until after the student has completed at least 24 semester hours at ASC with a 2.0 GPA average or better. Credits may then be presented to the dean of the appropriate school for approval.

Time Limitation on Credit
Any college credit earned more than 10 years before the date of admission or re-admission is not applicable toward the degree desired unless it is approved by the academic dean of the school where your intended major is located.

Credit for Military Experience
The dean of the school where you expect to earn your degree will evaluate any military credit and make the decision as to how the credit will be awarded. We are unable to evaluate this type of material in the unofficial evaluation.

Military service credit is processed when official documents or transcripts are received at ASC. Courses found in the American Council on Education Guide or on transcripts (CCAF, AARTS, SMART) can be evaluated. Locally conducted (base- or post-level) courses are generally not acceptable due to their unstructured and changing content. Course work accepted from the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) is not considered military credit.

To speed up the formal evaluation process, we recommend you request a transcript of your military training from the Air Force, Army, Navy or Marine Corps. For contact information, click here.
