Course Description: Philosophy concerns itself with fundamental questions about ourselves and our world, such as: What is the meaning of life? Is there a God? What is the nature of reality? Is knowledge possible? This course provides an introduction to Western philosophy from ancient to modern times through examinations of some of the major works that have provided influential and provocative answers to these questions.

Course Description: This course will explore some of the moral and social issues that are the cause of much controversy in the contemporary world. The background for this exploration will be the core concepts that have emerged from over two thousand years of theorizing about ethics and values: rights, duty, self-interest, natural law, and so forth. These concepts are the tools of analysis and, in turn, the analysis will sharpen and refine our understanding of the concepts.
