Course Description: This course will explore some of the moral and social issues that are the cause of much controversy in the contemporary world. The background for this exploration will be the core concepts that have emerged from over two thousand years of theorizing about ethics and values: rights, duty, self-interest, natural law, and so forth. These concepts are the tools of analysis and, in turn, the analysis will sharpen and refine our understanding of the concepts.
