Job description

Students in the Circulation Department work at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor. This can include some evenings and weekends.

Duties include:

  • creating and editing patron accounts
  • checking out books and equipment
  • checking out and managing interlibrary loans, patron-placed holds and course reserves,
  • Organizing and shelving library materials, and shelf-reading duties as assigned.

Students must be detail-oriented and be able to provide excellent customer service. Library experience and knowledge of Library of Congress Call Numbers is preferred.

Serials, E-Resources, Special Collections, and Archives

Students in the Serials Department help with the day-to-day operations of the department.

Duties include:

  • collecting morning newspapers
  • special collection and archive projects
  • journal check-in
  • ER & collection development projects.

Patron Placed Holds

Job description

Students work with the Library Technician in charge of Prospector patron-placed holds and book inventory.

Duties include:

  • utilizing circulation software to process borrowing requests from other libraries
  • retrieving and checking books
  • record-keeping using Excel
  • preparing books to send out on the library courier system
  • Scanning book barcodes and producing reports for review by supervisor.

Inter-Library Loan–Lending

Status: closed

Job description

Students work under the supervision of the Access Services Librarian.

Duties include:

  • Monitor and process lending requests electronically
  • Search library print and electronic resources
  • Search for and update lending records electronically
  • Locate, retrieve, and shelve books, media, and other items organized by Library of Congress Classification
  • Scan articles and book chapters from print and microfilm sources
  • Send articles and book chapters electronically while complying with copyright guidelines
  • Apply labels and package items for shipment
  • File relevant paperwork

Students must have a working knowledge of the structure of journal citations or be able to learn quickly, must know how to use a microfilm reader and copier or be able to learn quickly, and must have working knowledge of Library of Congress Classification.

Graduate students preferred.

Inter-Library Loan–Borrowing

Status: closed

Job description

Students work under the supervision of the Access Services Librarian.

Duties include:

  • Check request citations in Google Scholar
  • Check to see if the library owns the print or electronic resources requested
  • Order, track, deliver, and update patron requests electronically
  • Comply with copyright guidelines
  • File relevant paperwork

Students must have a working knowledge of the structure of journal citations or be able to learn quickly.

Graduate students preferred.

Technical Services

Status: closed

Job description

Students work under the supervision of the Cataloging and Acquisitions Librarian.

Duties include:

  • Receiving new books
  • data entry
  • physically preparing materials to go on the shelf
  • book repair
  • shelving

Students must be able to lift at least 30 lbs., have sharp attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. This position requires accuracy and good hand-eye coordination. Crafting skills are a plus.
