Teaching Assistant

Job description

A chemistry teaching assistant is a student who assists the instructors in a variety of tasks; often the assignment will include more than one particular task. Work hours are arranged around your class schedule and other commitments and average about 8 hours per week. Tasks may include: preparing chemicals and equipment for labs or lecture demonstrations; being present during labs to help instruct students in techniques and to answer questions; grading of quizzes, homework or lab reports; cleaning up labs, stockrooms and student work areas; taking inventory; preparing and developing demonstrations for our chemistry magic shows; tutoring during regularly scheduled times. Job Requirements: Chemistry teaching assistants should be science majors with an interest in a major or minor in chemistry. To assist in a class or lab, students must have passed the class themselves or passed a related higher level course. The chemistry program hires about 10 students a year.

  • Prepare Laboratory for activities and clean up laboratory after activities
  • Assist with Inventory of Supplies
  • Assist Coordinator and Technician with running audio-visual equipment during simulations

Science Fair needs a clerical person. We need someone that can use Word, Power Point, Excel. This person is responsible for the daily mailings that are sent out, filing, entering registration information, and to help set up the fair. Not necessary to have a science background!!!!
