Admissions
Students desiring to enroll in a Master's Degree program in the Department of Counselor Education must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. Students enrolled in the final year of undergraduate study may be admitted to graduate study pending verification of receipt of the baccalaureate degree. All applicants must submit the following information to the Office of Graduate Studies, Adams State University, Alamosa, CO 81101:
- An application for admission to graduate study.
- A $30.00 non-refundable application fee.
- An official transcript sent directly from the institution to the ASU Office of Graduate Studies verifying receipt of the baccalaureate degree. Transcripts from ASU need not be requested; however, official transcripts confirming transfer courses are required. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted.
- Two recent letters of recommendation from professional sources addressing the ability of the applicant to become a counselor.
- A personal statement addressing past helping experiences, future goals in the helping professions, and personal qualities that will enable the individual to be an effective counselor. The statement should be 3-5 pages in length, typed, and double-spaced.
- GRE or MAT is required for the Counselor Education program.
Students have until their Candidacy interview to take the exam.
If you have a Master's/ Doctorate Degree the MAT/GRE is waived.
The required minimum scores are:
MAT: 390
New GRE Score: 290
Please note that GRE and MAT scores older than five years will not be accepted. - Additional information may be requested by the Department of Counselor Education before an admission decision can be determined.
- The Chair of the Department of Counselor Education will notify students of admission decisions.
