Student Affairs
The Student Affairs Certificate is an option within the Clinical Mental Health Counseling or the School Counseling program that prepares professionals to provide counseling, consultation, leadership and preventive services to individuals, groups and communities within a variety of higher education settings. The Student Affairs coursework will provide knowledge of higher education and student development, facilitate the development of counseling abilities for both traditional and nontraditional students, and offer experiential components to learning through practical experiences in a variety of student-related areas. Student Affairs students are encouraged to think critically, communicate effectively, and responsibly utilize innovative strategies to enhance college student development.
In addition to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling or the School Counseling program curriculum, students in the Student Affairs Certificate will take courses such as: Introduction to Student Affairs, Student Development & Learning Theory and Organizational Culture & Administration of Student Services in Higher Education.
