The Online Plus Program was developed to meet the educational needs of those students who are not within driving distance of a counseling program or whose work schedule will not allow physical attendance.

Online Plus has the exact course content as the other accredited programs ASU offers, only in an online format.

Week-Long Intensives

Students enrolling in this program will be required to attend one-week session on the Adams State campus in each of the two summer sessions.

During these week long intensives students will interact with the faculty on campus and develop their interpersonal skills, form learning groups, become acquainted with the program and its expectations, and receive tutoring and advising.

The Intensives are required.

Program Goals

Online Plus is designed to provide the human relations and therapeutic skills necessary to become a professional counselor. Four general goals are necessary to develop the mature and professionally competent counselor:

  1. Personal growth
  2. Development of a broad knowledge of counseling theory and research
  3. Development of individual and group counseling skills
  4. Knowledge of auxiliary services and follow-up

The program offers coursework leading to degrees in:

Completion of the School Counseling curriculum leads to recognition by the State of Colorado as meeting the coursework requirements for licensure as a School Counselor in the State of Colorado.

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling curriculum leads to recognition in Colorado as meeting the educational requirements for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado.
