EARTH Week Celebration to be held at Adams State College (04-07-08)
The Adams State College Environmental Action for Resources, Transportation and Health (EARTH) group and the San Luis Valley Resource Conservation & Development Council is planning a week long celebration of EARTH Week from April 14 through April 19. The weekday events will include films, speakers and concerts. A variety of activities are planned for Saturday.
If you are annoyed with high gas prices, attend the showing of the film "Who Killed the Electric Car," at 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, in Carson Auditorium. Jeffrey Blamey, amateur electric motorcycle conversionist, will lead a discussion immediately following the film.
A live Web cast, "National Wildlife Campus Chill-Out," begins at 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 16 in Porter Hall room 130 (Science and Mathematics Building).
A concert by Jenny Bird, Mark Dudrow, and Justin Dean is scheduled for 8 p.m., Thursday, April 17 in Leon Memorial, cosponsored with ALMA.
Friday's, April 18, event is "Mountainfilm on Tour" 7 p.m. in Carson Auditorium, cosponsored with Adams State Adventure Programs.
The EARTH Week activities conclude on Saturday, April 19 at the Student Union Building. Activities include a reduce, reuse, recycle garage sale from 8 a.m. until noon; free samples of radishes, and a sale of tomato plants - both grown in local greenhouses. A river clean-up is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. A Solar Expo with speakers, demonstrations and information tables will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and continue through 2 p.m. Speakers include Dr. John Miller, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, "Carbon Dioxide, Energy and Climate Change"; Paul Shippe's, Crestone Solar School, "Sustainability and the Sun"; and Susan Innis, governor's energy office, speaking on the state incentives to reduce carbon.
Attendance to all events is free and open to the public. Carson Auditorium is located in the Student Union Building, on First Street and Stadium Avenue in Alamosa, Colo.
At each event, ASC Community Partnership will be selling re-usable grocery bags imprinted with the logos for ASC Community Partnership and EARTH.
