ASC Nursing Program hosts nationally known speaker (04-08-08)
The Adams State College Nursing Program is pleased to present, Kathleen Bartholomew, "Ending Nurse-to-Nurse Hostility: Why Nurses Eat Their Young," from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, in the Student Union Building in room A131. The event is cosponsored by the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, the San Luis Valley Health Education Center, and the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing, and is made possible through a grant from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.
Bartholomew, RN, MN, has been called the most important new voice in American Nursing. With breakthrough professional books such as "Speak Your Truth," and "Ending Nurse-to-Nurse Hostility," her unprecedented, dynamic speeches and public appearances, and her significant contributions to healthcare as one of the nation's most sought-after nursing consultants, Kathleen is changing nursing by compassionately holding a mirror to the profession and exposing a century of hidden truths.
Bartholomew is a registered nurse and counselor, has been a national speaker for the nursing profession for the past six years. As the manager of a 57 bed surgical unit in Seattle, Bartholomew quickly recognized that creating a culture where staff felt a sense of belonging was critical to retention. Throughout Swedish Medical Center Bartholomew spoke to the numerous factors which propel our society toward isolation and encouraged staff to connect and value one another. During her tenure as manager, staff, physician and patient satisfaction improved significantly as she implemented her down-to earth strategies for creating community. Despite the nursing shortage, Bartholomew could always depend on a waiting list of nurses and nursing assistants for her unit.
