SLV high school poets win ASC scholarships (04-30-08)

On April 24, a poetry reading in the Adams State College Luther Bean Museum featured San Luis Valley high school students. The students received scholarships to Adams State College after winning the English Department's 2008 creative writing contest.

The scholarship recipients are Brettli Decker, $1000, Centauri; Jodie Vigil, $200, Centennial; Brittany Brown, $200, Sangre de Cristo; Matt Chandler, $200, Sangre de Cristo; Casey Diss, $200, Sangre de Cristo; and Tabatha Tatro, $200, Sangre de Cristo. Kathleen Chavez is Decker's teacher, Abigail Sandoval is Vigil's teacher, and Matt Levassieur is the teacher for the Sangre de Cristo students.

Vigil declined her scholarship, because she will not be attending Adams State. She asked that her reward money be divided among the Sangre de Cristo recipients.
