The Annual Pan American Day event is April 24
The high school band from Antonito rocked the audience with a rendition of "La Bamba" during 2013 Pan American Day.Pan American Day is a long tradition at Adams State University, this year the event is scheduled for Thursday, April 24.
Pan American Day brings San Luis Valley high school students to campus to celebrate the Spanish language and culture in a series of competitions, including spelling, grammar, oral interpretation, speech, knowledge bowl, art, media, dance, song and skit.
The event is part of an international celebration taking place on April 23, recognizing the Dia del Libro and honoring Migue de Cervantes Saavedra, author of Don Quijote de la Mancha.
According to Dr. Eva Rayas Solís, the Spanish Club, formed in 1928, has organized the event for 80 years. She estimates close to 300 visitors attend the annual event including instructors, chaperons, high school students, family members and friends. The Adams State Spanish program now also helps organize and sponsor Pan American Days.
