The show will open with the ASC Jazz Ensemble, followed by 68 West, then the SLV Big Band, under the direction of Ed Troyer. The two bands will combine for an all out jazz blowout ending the concert.
The Jazz Ensemble will play works by Maynard Ferguson, Frank Mantooth, Pat Metheny, Gordon Goodwin, and much more. 68 West, Adams State's a capella group, will perform music by Randy Newman, Neil Young, Queen, Rimsky-Korsakov and Michael Jackson and the SLV Big Band will play works by George Gershwin, Sammy Nestico, Jaco Pastorius, Chuck Mangione, and classic standards.
The concert will feature Joe Ferrone, who has appeared in performance as a member of the Falconaires, the Flobots, and for the last ten years has played trumpet for Bop Skizzum. Ferrone, Adams State adjunct professor of high brass, received a Bachelor of Music Performance and Certificate of Jazz Studies from the University of Colorado in Boulder. The SLV Big Band's, a non-profit organization, purpose is to bring big band jazz to the people of Southern Colorado. The band's repertoire includes jazz, swing, Latin, and bop. The backgrounds of the band's musicians are as varied and interesting as the music. Musicians include an attorney, optometrist, several small business owners, a security consultant, crop duster, an international CEO, a quarter horse breeder, active and retired band directors, a rocket scientist, and high school students. Band members range from teenagers to well - way over that.
