First ASC music event is September 7
The Adams State College Music Department opens the fall season with a faculty recital starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7 in Leon Memorial Hall on the Adams State campus. This concert is free and open to the public.
The event will showcase the talents of many of Adams State's music faculty, featuring Dr. Christine Keitges, mezzo-soprano; with Cheryl Shults, piano; Joy Plesner, viola; and Tracy Doyle, flute.
The program will include a variety of music, from Baroque (J.S. Bach) to contemporary English. Plesner is accompanying Keitges on two songs by Brahms - written for voice, viola and piano; and Doyle is accompanying her on a French song "The Invisible Flute"; and both are playing on an aria by Bach.
Also featured are newly composed songs by Matthew Schildt called "O Lonely Watcher of the Skies": Five Songs from /Chamber Music/ by James Joyce. Keitges will perform three of the five.
After a semester on sabbatical, Keitges has returned as the interim department chair of music. She said: "It has been wonderful working on this program with all of these great people."
