DaVinci String Quartet performs March 6 on the ASC campus (02-24-05)
The Adams State College Music Department brings the DaVinci String Quartet to campus at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in Leon Concert Hall. The program will include string quartets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Alban Berg. The quartet will be joined by ASC piano professor Dr. William Lipke in the Quintet for Piano and Strings by Antonin Dvorak. The program is free to AS&F and Friends of Music. General admission is $5 for adults and $1 for students.
Praised by critics as "strikingly powerful" and "stunningly assured," the Da Vinci Quartet has commanded more than two decades of compelling, insightful music making. Prizewinners and finalists in the Dimitri Shostakovich International String Quartet Competition and the Naumberg Award for Chamber Music, the Da Vinci has performed with critical acclaim - from St. Petersburg and Washington, DC to Los Angeles and Boston. Committed to engaging new audiences in classical music, the Quartet has been nationally recognized on the "News Hour with Jim Lehrer" for its pioneer programming in nontraditional venues.
The DaVinci Quartet will also be working with Adams State College piano and string students on Saturday, March 5. "This is an exciting opportunity for our students to work with the DaVinci. I am pleased to welcome them to our community," said Lipke.
