Montano shares New Mexico history and traditions (07-30-08)

The history of the southwest is rich and varied. Mary Montano, Albuquerque, N.M., expands on a broad array of subjects including the history and folk arts of her home state, New Mexico, in her book "Tradiciones Nuevomexicanas." She will share her stories at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in the Adams State College Luther Bean Museum. Montano will be accompanied by local poet, author Aaron Abeyta, and the Southwest Musicians, Lorenzo Trujillo, Eva Nuanez and William Archuleta. This community event is free to the public.

As an instructor at the University of New Mexico, Montano utilizes her text as a primary source in teaching Indo-Hispano Arts of New Mexico at the UNM College of Fine Arts.

The museum will be displaying 19th and 20th century Rio Grande blanket weavings for this memorable program that will feature a mosaic of history, poetry and music. The program is hosted by Hilos Culturales and is sponsored by Semillas de la Tierra, Valley Wide Health Systems, Kavleys Business and Tech Center, Papers of Distinction, the Grizzly Inn and the Luther Bean Museum.
