History of fur trade talk and open house at ASC
(07-28-2010)
Dr. Eric Jay Dolin will present an illustrated talk and sign copies of his new book Fur, Fortune, and Empire: the Epic History of the Fur Trade in America at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, in Adams State College Porter Hall room 130.
Prior to Dolin's talk, the Luther Bean Museum in Richardson Hall is hosting an open house starting at 5 p.m. The museum encourages the public to bring in items related to the fur trade to share. Following his talk, Dolin will invite local historians and fur trade buffs to briefly discuss what they know about fur trading and trapping in the San Luis Valley. The events are free and open to the public.
Sponsors of the event include Friends of the Dunes and Adams State, and Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area. Copies of Fur, Fortune, and Empire can be purchased in area bookstores, and at the Great Sand Dunes National Park Visitor Center.
Dolin earned a BA and BS from Brown University; a Masters of Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies; and his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For more information on Dolin and his book, visit http://www.ericjaydolin.com/index.cfm.
