Counseling Center director completes AMSR training
Gregg Elliott, director of Adams State University Counseling and Career Services, became an Assessing & Managing Suicide Risk Trainer (AMSR), after attending a training in Kentucky in April. He is the only AMSR trainer in the State of Colorado.
According to Elliott, the Colorado State Office of Suicide Prevention is currently working on a grant that will train additional trainers in the state. "I will be offering the AMSR training to the Counselor Ed students that I work with, as well as to clinicians that work in the community and at the Mental Health Center."
Elliott was also accepted to present a three-hour pre-conference session at the American College Counseling Association in San Antonio in October. He will present a session on "Comprehensive Campus Suicide Prevention" which will, in part, cover some of the work his department has done over the last three years with the SAMHSA Garrett Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention Grant.
