The Adams State College Education Club hosted a Dr. Seuss birthday party at Nielson Library on Feb. 29.

Marni Zabel, class of 08 and president of the club, said the party included crafts, give-aways, and readings of Dr. Seuss' books. "We were very excited to have so many children attend the event," she said. "Next year we hope to have more activities."

The club held the party in association with the National Educations Association's "Read Across America." Jessica Stevens, class of 09, is the club's vice president. She said: "The party helped the club branch out to the community."

The children were encouraged to make birthday cards for Dr. Seuss. "One of my favorite cards said, 'To the guy who made reading cool, happy birthday,'" Zabel said.

"It was a good opportunity for education club members to gain hands on experience with young children," Jesse Jaramillo, Adams State graduate of 2003, said. "My son enjoyed the activities, especially the readings. I appreciate the efforts of ASC students to involve the community in activities such as this."
