Felmlee said the honor was in recognition of Svaldi's "great leadership" in higher education, as well as of his recent appointment to the San Luis Valley Regional Council of the El Pomar Foundation. El Pomar makes grants to Colorado non-profit organizations and operated programs that encourage leadership and promote community development across the state.

Now in his fifth year as Adams State president, Svaldi was also recently recognized for 25 years of service to the college. He joined Adams State as an associate professor of communications in 1986.

During Svaldi's tenure as president, the college has experienced two consecutive years of record enrollment and initiated $60 million worth of campus improvements. College officials expect to set new record enrollment this summer and fall, as well.
