Friends of Nursing awards scholarships to three ASU students

Three Adams State University nursing students were awarded scholarships totaling $9,380 from the Friends of Nursing (FON) at the organization's recent Spring Luncheon, held at the Lakewood Country Club. Stephanie Carino received both the Friends of Nursing Scholarship and Monahan Single Parent Grant; Valerie Smith received the Greta Pollard Scholarship; and Kristine Timboe received the Fern Howard Scholarship.

Carino hopes to work in women's health and eventually become a family nurse practitioner. Smith belongs to the Adams State Student Nurses Association and is interested in emergency care and possibly becoming a nurse midwife. Timboe plans to work caring for the elderly in home health or hospice.

Dr. Amanda Jojola, director of the Adams State nursing program, said, "We truly appreciate the support Friends of Nursing has given to our program, and to our very hard-working students. These scholarships are very important to them and to Adams State."

The Friends of Nursing works to advance professional nursing in Colorado through student educational support.
