State funds will upgrade Adams State University pool
Adams State University's Plachy Hall pool will be upgraded through capital construction funding included in the Long Bill recently signed by Gov. Hickenlooper.
This $900,000 project will replace the pool's sporadically functioning filtration and chemical distribution system, install a new pool liner, and replace the tile floor decking around the pool.
According to Bill Mansheim, vice president for Finance and Governmental Relations, the first step is to complete design and engineering; the work may be done in the summer of 2015.
"State Senator Larry Crowder and Representative Ed Vigil played a key role in approval of this funding legislation," Mansheim added. "Their support of this funding was critical, and it will benefit all of Colorado higher education."
Vigil noted, "As Vice-Chair of the Capital Development Committee, it is my job to ensure all parts of Colorado get funding for capital construction projects, and as a member of the Adam State alumni and the San Luis Valley community, I make sure that we get a fair piece of that pie."
Crowder added that "Adams State University is a viable and very important part of our higher education system, and I support it in any way I can."
