The Adams State College Nielsen Library is pleased with the renovations to the Joel J. Jensen Computer Lab located on the second floor.

Jensen '78 was a network administrator/analyst for Adams State College Computing Services for 20 years. He died September 8, 1998.

In October of the same year the library staff formally dedicated its computer lab to his memory.

According to Dianne Machado, director of the Nielsen Library, Jensen helped initiate the library computer lab in the early 90s, using computers donated by the School of Science, Mathematics and Technology.

"Joel would be very pleased with the renovations to the lab," Machado said.

The lab now has new computers and a mural painted by Adams State College art student Ian Wilkinson '05.

The mural design, Teach a Man to Fish, was approved by the library staff.

"I was amazed at how well Ian matched the design he showed us to the painting," Brooke Phillips, reference librarian, said.

Wilkinson said the mural is dedicated to the pursuit of education and the fond memory of Joel J. Jenson.

"This piece is about the human hunger for understanding, and the rites of passage in our quest for wisdom," Wilkinson said.

Chris Olance, IT professional for Computing Services replaced the old computers with 15 new ones.

"These are some of the fastest computers on campus," Olance said. "They are definitely the fastest in any of our labs."

The Dell computers are Small Form Factor unit, which means no computer hard drive under the desk.

According to Olance the computer takes up very little space on the table top and gives the students more legroom. He said it makes it easy for the students to access the floppy drive, CD / DVD burner, or the USB ports for a 'thumb drive.'

One of Olance's computer technicians, Robert Casados, painted the west wall faux brick.

"We even installed a digital clock so students can get to class on time," Olance said.

The computer lab is available to Adams State College students, faculty or staff during library hours.

Machado said every time she looks up at the stars she remembers Jenson.

"Not a day goes by that I don't think of Joel and how well he looked after the staff in the library," Machado said.
