Eleven ASC Business students receive Wall, Smith, Bateman Scholarships (11-20-06)
Wall, Smith, Bateman, and Associates Inc. awarded accounting scholarships to the following Adams State College students, (pictured left to right) Craig Colvin '06, Eric Christian '07, Lori Austin '08, Matt Semsack '07, Melissa Romero '09, Sam Buchman '08, and Joni Wigger '06. Not pictured are Tanya Cash, Colene Cordero, Joshua McDaniel, and Michael McDonald.
Eldo Wall and Neil Smith, the firm's original partners, began the scholarship program for ASC in 1982. Since that time many students have received aid for their academic goals. The partnership between the college and the firm extends into employment opportunities for alumni.
"We are impressed with the quality of both the accounting program and the students," Larry A. Pochardt, WSB Firm Administrator, said. "Wall, Smith, Bateman & Associates attribute a large measure of its success to the ASC graduates who comprise the majority of our staff."
Christian said the financial assistance is helpful in other ways than academics.
"I appreciate the Wall, Smith, Bateman Scholarship," Christian said. "It is helpful to have the extra financial reward especially during your junior and senior years when you need extra money for interviews, clothes, books, etc."
Kurt Keiser, interim chair School of Business, said the WSB scholarships provide a tremendous service to the students.
"We are greatly indebted to Wall, Smith, and Bateman for their generous support of the School of Business for many years," Keiser said. "Their support, either through scholarships or internship opportunities, is one of the key ingredients to the great success of the ASC accounting program."
