ASC faculty lecture focuses on problem solving (11-26-07)
The Adams State College Faculty Lecture Series last event "Making SMART decisions," Dr. Rob Gilchrist, assistant professor of mathematics, begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 in Porter Hall (the science building) room 130.
Gilchrist said when decisions involve a large number of objectives, unaided decision makers tend to avoid making trade-offs between these objectives; they tend to select options that perform well on only one objective.
In this talk, Gilchrist will explore how decision analysis, using the Simple Multi-Attribute Rating Technique (SMART), can be used to support people who face decisions that have multiple objectives. This will be achieved by splitting the problem into small parts and focusing on each part separately, achieving a better understanding of the problem.
Complimentary light refreshments will be offered. All talks are free and the public is invited. For further information on the series of lectures, contact Dr. Robert Astalos, assistant professor of physics at 719-587-7821, or by email: rjastalos@adams.edu.
