ASC Theatre opens season with comedies on Sept. 25 (09-14-07)
Zachary Burrell, Scott Shew, Jillian Keesler, and Josh Streeter
The Adams State College Theatre Department opens the 2007/2008 season with mirth and laughter. Witness, by Terrence McNally, and Rome, Inc., by Zach Burrell '08, open at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, on the Xperimental Stage in the Theatre Building. The show continues nightly through Sept. 29, and tickets are $7 for general admission, $6 for seniors and students, and free to Adams State Associated Students and Faculty. Call 719-587-TIXX for reservations.
These two one-act plays showcase the directing talents of Kyle La Boria '08, Witness, and Chelsea Rossetto '08, Rome, Inc., and the playwright talents of Burrell.
"Witness is a dark comedy with an underlying theme of how the general public can be manipulated through the media and the government, if those factions are ignored," La Boria said. "It is the people's responsibility to say, 'this doesn't work,' in order for a democracy to be successful."
Josh Streeter, Matt Clark, Zachary Burrell, Jason Eichenberger, Amanda Lovitt, Jillian Keesler, Scott Shew, and Ben Butler liven up rehearsals.
Suspenseful stage directing and coordinating set changes between the plays has presented the stage managers, Elizabeth Wellman '08 and Emily Stiles '08, the opportunity to be collaborative and creative.
Rossetto is directing Rome, Inc., a "very funny and physical comedy," which spoofs Julius Caesar. The play is set in present day Washington, D.C. where two employees plot the death of their boss. "The cast is making great choices," Rossetto said. "This play has been a lot of fun to direct."
