Mr. James Willis, Jr.
B.A. in Speech/Theatre from Adams State College
Since 1992, I have donated my time and resources to the Adams State Theatre Program in the form of makeup design, including supervision, and execution, for myriad productions as well as poster design and other graphic work.
For a time I worked professionally as an actor as well as makeup artist and performed makeup workshops at colleges and high schools. As an adjunct instructor I currently teach Stage Makeup, Cinema, and Speech Fundamentals. The university’s preparatory program, Upward Bound, engages me in the summers to teach Speech Fundamentals and Beginning Theatre, in which I create and direct an original script for high school students to perform for their family and peers.
I occasionally direct for the theatre program. I’ve directed The SantaLand Diaries, The Fantasticks, Everything in the Garden, and Lend Me a Tenor for Adams State and assistant directed, with Dr. Carolyn Harper, the RMTA showcase productions Waiting for Godot and Hedda Gabler.
A highlight of my theatre experience was scripting and acting in the production September Songs as part of a week of Fine Arts events sponsored by Adams State University about AIDS awareness. Proceeds from this event were donated to AIDS research.
