Graduate Course Drop/Withdrawal Information

Prior to dropping or withdrawing from graduate coursework, individuals should consider the impact a course drop/withdrawal will have on grades, tuition & fees, and federal financial aid. Students considering dropping courses and/or withdrawing from a graduate program are encouraged to review the information here in order to make a well-informed decision. If a registered student elects to drop a course or withdrawal from a program, the student must follow the proper drop/withdrawal procedures (see FAQ below).

Drop/Withdrawal Impact on GRADES

The timing of a course drop/withdrawal will determine whether the course appears on the Adams State transcript. The enrollment record and grades are determined based on the following guidelines:

  • Student withdraws prior to the official start date:
    No grade received

  • Student withdraws prior to the drop/add date (15% of course):
    No grade received

  • Student withdraws prior to the first 50% of the course:
    “W” or earned grade

  • Student withdraws after 50% of the course:
    “F” or earned grade

  • Student does not officially withdraw:
    “F” or earned grade

Drop/Withdrawal Impact on TUITION & FEES

By registering for a course(s), the student accepts responsibility for tuition, fees, and other costs associated with enrolling in graduate coursework. The timing of a course drop/withdrawal will determine the amount of tuition & fees in which the student is responsible for. In order to avoid all charges, students must drop prior to the official start date. Students who choose to drop a course on or after the official start date will be responsible for tuition and fees based on the following guidelines:

  • Student withdraws prior to the drop/add date (15% of course):
Student responsible for 10% of charges

  • Student withdraws prior to first 25% of the course:
Student responsible for 25% of charge

  • Student withdraws prior to first 50% of the course:
Student responsible for 50% of charges

  • Student withdraws after 50% of the course:
Student responsible for 100% of charges

  • Student does not officially withdraw:
Student responsible for 100% of charges
