What is Prospector?
Prospector is a system that allows users to request books from member libraries. Member libraries include many large academic libraries, as well as an extensive list of public libraries.
How do I find books or other materials on Prospector?
To find out if Prospector has the material you want please search the Prospector catalog. Make sure you search the Adams State catalog before requesting material from Prospector.
- Search for a book.
- Click on the title and scroll down to see if the book is marked as AVAILABLE. If a book is not available you can still request it, but it might take some time to reach the library.
- Click on the gray button that says “Request It”.
- This will give you a pop-up screen that allows you to select your Home Library. Select Alliance – Adams State University.
- The box will ask you for your name and your library card number. Enter in your information.
If the request is successful you will get a confirmation message. If the request is denied, it is probably because your library card is out of date. Please call the circulation desk at 719-587-7781 to get it updated.
Items borrowed from Prospector typically take from 4-7 days to reach the library. Once it is here you will be emailed to pick your item up. You can check on the progress of your item at any time by looking at your library account.
What if my item is not in Prospector?
If you item is not in Prospector, try clicking on the Mobius button to the right hand side of the Prospector search. This will give you even more libraries to choose from. If you still cannot find your item, please submit a book request through ILL.
Getting Materials from Prospector
When will my item get here?
Items borrowed from Prospector typically take from 4-7 days to reach the library. You can check on the progress of your item at any time by looking at your library account.
How long do I get to keep the item?
The loan time is generally determined by your ASU status; typical loan times are three weeks for students and community. Please check the front of your item for the exact due date.
Why do I get an error message when I log into Prospector?
Most of the time it’s because your library card is out of date. Please call the circulation desk at 719-587-7781, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, so that we may fix the problem.
What do I do if it’s been over a week and my item is still not here?
If you are concerned because an item is not yet here, please contact the library reference desk at 719-587-7879 or email us at email@example.com.
