ASC graduate named History Day Teacher of the Year

Sarah Ramirez, Adams State class of 2004, received the Colorado History Day Teacher of the Year award in May at the State History Day Competition held on the University of Colorado, Denver campus. She is entering her sixth year of teaching history at Sargent Junior/Senior High School.

Each year, Colorado History Day recognizes an outstanding teacher for innovative history teaching within and outside the classroom. Ramirez was nominated by students, a parent, a colleague and an administrator. Criteria includes development and use of creative teaching methods that interest students in history and help them make exciting discoveries about the past and exemplary commitment to helping students develop their interest in history and recognize their achievements.

Dr. Ed Crowther, ASC history/government/philosophy chair, said: "Sarah uses History Day as a means of communicating her own enthusiasm for history with her students."
