ASC's Diana Wenzel appointed to concurrent enrollment advisory board

Dr. Diana K. Wenzel, Adams State College associate provost for extended studies, was recently appointed to a three-year term on the state's new Concurrent Enrollment Advisory Board. Wenzel represents four-year colleges on the 13-member board, which is charged with overseeing programs that allow students to simultaneously enroll in high school and college.

Among Wenzel's responsibilities is administration of College@High School, Adams State's concurrent enrollment program. Nine southern Colorado school districts participate in the program.

Wenzel's 30-year career includes experience at both K-12 and higher education levels. Prior to her appointment as associate provost, she served as chief academic and assessment officer for Adams State Extended Studies.

The board was created by the Colorado State Legislature through House Bill 09-1219 and Senate Bill 09-285. The resulting Concurrent Enrollment Programs Act aims to broaden access to and improve the quality of concurrent enrollment programs, improve coordination between institutions of secondary education and institutions of higher education and ensure financial transparency and accountability. The act also created the "5th year" ASCENT program for students retained by the high school for instruction beyond the senior year.
