Adams State Alumnus Bussey will address fall graduates
Duane Bussey, class of '82, will give the commencement address at Adams State University in Alamosa on December 20, 2014. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in Plachy Hall. Adams State will award 140 degrees, including 117 bachelor's degrees, and 23 associate degrees.
In Bussey's address, "The Secrets to Success are not Secret" he will share his personal thoughts on success in personal and in professional life. "I believe the things that bring lasting success and effectiveness to any person or organization are not secrets at all, but rather things we have all heard from a young age, things our families, churches, mentors and teachers from kindergarten on up have all shared with us." Throughout his speech, Bussey will elaborate on key points he believes important to making the most out of life.
Bussey graduated Magna Cum Laude from Adams State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in business administration and psychology. That same year, he started his career with San Luis Valley Federal Bank, becoming the bank president in 2004.
A dedicated alumnus and community member, Bussey demonstrates his commitment through service. He became a member of the Adams State University Foundation Board in 2007 and currently serves as president of the board.
Adams State recognized Bussey's continual support by presenting him with the Outstanding Alumnus in 2001. The San Luis Valley Federal Bank received the 2014-15 Grizzly Club Corporate Sponsor of the Year.
As the bank president, Bussey continues to oversee the SLV Federal Bank scholarship, which has awarded scholarships to Adams State students for nearly 40 years.
While a student, Bussey played on the men's basketball team from 1976 until 1980.
Along with Adams State, Bussey also serves on my other community boards and organizations, including the SLV Health Foundation Board, the Alamosa County Economic Development Corporation, the ASU Grizzly Club, SLV Trout Unlimited, and Kiwanis Club of Alamosa. He has coordinated the Alamosa Fourth of July fireworks show since 1997. He was also a past president for the ASU Alumni Board of Directors and the Alamosa Count Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
In 2000, Bussey graduated with honors from America's Community Bankers National School of Banking @ Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.
He and his wife, Lorey '80, have three daughters, Emily '07, Erica and Katie, one granddaughter and a grandchild on the way.
Arnold Salazar, chair of the Adams State Board of Trustees, will convey the greetings from the board, while Marlene Espinoza will deliver the 2014 class message. Dr. Shellie Beeman, assistant professor of music, will lead the singing of the Alma Mater.
