Alamosa native, Antiel, coming to town with NY Theatre Company

The Adams State College Theatre Program will host the New York based theatre company American Centaur's two original productions on March 22 and 23 in the ASC Main Stage Theatre. Tickets go on sale Monday, March 19.

American Centaur is composed of six men who create original works based on classic texts. Their mission is to create live theatre for the internet generation. The company features Alamosa native Cory Antiel.

"K5" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Adams State Main Stage Theatre. Based on Shakespeare's "Henry V," "K5" is a raucous exploration of soaring rhetoric, team spirit, and high energy performance. It is an intensely physical work featuring Shakespearean and original text, dance, acrobatics, wrestling, and live music. "K5" has also been produced at in New York at Theaterlab, IRT Theater, and at Sarah Lawrence College.

"Death of American Centaur" is rollicking tragedy of one company's dream, and how it died. Loosely based on the classic play "Death of a Salesman," American Centaur uses a high-tech/low-tech approach to put on a wildly disrespectful, pathetically desperate-to-please tribute to a certain musty relic of mid-century American drama. Willy Loman dreamed of money and success; American Centaur dreams of heart-stopping, painfully entertaining theater. It will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, in the Adams State Main Stage Theatre.

Dr. John Taylor, theatre professor, said, "We are very excited to host this exciting and innovative professional theatre company. Their work is fun, irreverent, and a great example of no holds barred performance that pushes the boundaries of what theatre does."

American Centaur's weeklong residency is funded by the Adams State's English, Theatre, and Communications Department and the Office of Student Life and Recreation. In addition to the two theatre productions, American Centaur will present daily workshops. For more information, about the workshops please call 719-587-7382.
